However getting any of these entities to reveal the identities of former owners would be difficult if not impossible unless the guitar had been stolen, in which case it would be confiscated and returned to the original owner. With the exception of the first two, this would only reveal the original purchaser. But it is only an illusion - there is no freedom or privacy anymore, we sold that farm years ago.The only way that there would be a record of ownership by a guitar's serial number would be if the instrument had been registered with an insurance company, police department (not likely), if the original dealer kept records of sales for extended periods of time ( not very likely, and records would probably be filed by customer, not instrument), or if the instrument was registered with the company under warranty. My point above is that the government wish the people to have a false sense of security and privacy. fairly unlikely, but never underestimate the trail of evidence you leave behind. The chances of them actually wanting to is farly remote - unless you bludgeoned a secret agent to death with your Partscaster and the serial number was the only way to place you at the scene. Practically anything anyone buys creates an electronic trail of idenification that is stored for years and freely accessible to military agents IF they have a reason to want this.
